AS GOOD AS ADVERTISED?
So how do I feel about my BCS Championship game prediction two games into the
season? Not so good. Virginia Tech is 0-2 and well out of the
hunt. What about The Ohio State Buckeyes, you ask? Oh, on that
part, I feel REAL GOOD.
Take away poor special teams play and our Buckeyes would be the talk of the
nation. The good news is this can be fixed pretty easily. Simply
put more starters on the field for these critical plays and let nature take its
course. Gotta love my keyboard coaching.
Remember the publicity last week leading into this one? It was supposed
to be the coming out party for the Hurricanes. "Back to the glory
days" they crowed before the game. And they brought along the likes
of Jeremy Shockey and the Edge to see them reborn.
Instead, what they got was a big 'ol can of Buckeye Whup A**. The sight
of Cam Heyward lumbering down the sideline toting the rock undoubtedly will
stay with Coach Shannon and Jacory Harris right up to kick off next year in
Terrelle Pryor had an average game (for him) and still accounted for about 350
total yards of offense. And he did it without a very good day from our
usually dependable combo of "Boom and Zoom." Last year Pryor
would have panicked with modest support like he had Saturday; this year he put
the offense on his shoulders and carried the load. This writer is really
enjoying the maturation of Mr. Pryor. He's come a long way from the day
he belatedly and nervously announced his plans to attend "the University
of Ohio State." It's hard not to like Number 2 in my book.
Bottom line: we are averaging 40.5 points per game on offense thus far (hope my
Pennies for Points guess is high enough). Does anyone out there reading
this believe the Silver Bullets will give up 41 points in a single game?
After allowing only one TD thus far this season? Therein lies your answer
to my cheerfulness.
I'll close with a word about pre-game Saturday in the Shoe. I will admit
that I wasn't too thrilled earlier in the week when I read on a TBDBITL chat
board that the Star Spangled Banner was to be sung by Rascal Flatts. That
duty belongs to OSUMB I reasoned. But now I see things through a
different pair of lenses. I'd even be okay with Gene Smith trying to
arrange for Nick Lachey and Jessica Simpson to meet at the 50 yard line on
November 27th for a star spangled reunion. If it leads to four
interceptions of Denard Robinson....I'm all for it!
GO BUCKS! YEA
