I hope everyone remembered to set their clocks
back one hour. For the Wisconsin Badgers, I bet they wish they could've turned
back the game clock and not let "Beanie" Wells go wild in the second
half. Wells was running like a man possessed Saturday. He was the spark that
was needed for a hard fought 38-17 victory over the Badgers.
An excellent crowd of 71 turned out on a
gorgeous fall morning to see the Buckeyes win their 28th straight regular
season game and most importantly, their 20th straight conference game
(Big 10 Record). A big thank you goes out to John Crossmock and Paul
Malanga for conducting the raffle. $217 was donated toward the scholarship
fund.
For the 7th straight game, the Buckeyes scored
on their opening possession. This time it was a short 3rd down pass to Brian
Robiskie. "Robo" made a couple of guys miss en route to a 30 yard TD
reception. The Badgers answered with a FG only because their fake punt worked
to perfection for 31 yards to keep their opening drive going. As the first half
was ending, the Buckeyes put together an 8 play drive that ended with a
Ryan Pretorius 27 yard FG and a 10-3
Former Buckeye great and College and Pro
Football Hall of Famer Bill Willis had his #99 jersey retired on Saturday.
Needless to say, it was long overdue.
The Buckeyes let their guard down to start the
second half by giving up TD's on back to back possessions. TE Travis Beckum
hauled in a diving catch in the back of the endzone from 28 yards out. After an
OSU punt, the Badgers went down the field and scored on a 2 yard play action TD
pass to FB Chris Pressley to make it 17-10.
After that score, it was all Buckeyes from
that point on. Wells tied the score on a nifty cutback run from 31 yards out to
tie it up at 17. Wells' next TD run was nearly identical as he went 30 yards to
paydirt and a 24 -17 OSU lead.
The Buckeyes stopped a second fake punt when
James Laurinaitis tackled the Punter for a 2 yard loss. The Punter didn't
realize that the coaches called off the "no fake" play. After that
miscue, Robiskie hauled in a terrific, splendid 1 handed TD catch that would've
been awesome to Tivo. Backup LB Thaddeus Gibson forced a fumble that led to
Wells' third TD of the game. After a shaky start, the Buckeyes woke up on both
sides of the ball and cemented their #1 ranking for another week.
Luckybuck's Helmet Sticker Player(s) of the
Week: If this was a horse race, the first 3 finishers would be as follows: Win,
Place, and Show. To that degree, here are my 3 guys in that order: Chris
"Beanie" Wells: 169 yards rushing (144 yards in the second half) 3
TD, DE Vernon Gholston: 4 of the 10 team sacks. He narrowly missed a
school record 5th sack late in the game. Last but not least, LB James
Laurinaitis: 19 Tackles (2 TFL), 1 fumble recovery and 1 sack. A total
team effort out on the field.
On tap: It's Senior Day in the 'Shoe as we say
goodbye to our Seniors. Three in particular: Starters Kirk Barton, Dionte
Johnson and Larry Grant. The Fightin' Illini of Illinois will be the opponent
for OSU. Kickoff is set for 2:30pm on ABC. The school supply for this week is
paper as we look to "Crumble the Illini". Have a great week.
GO BUCKS!!!
